Now This Makes Sense!

I received this email from a friend of mine the other day and I believe it is very much worth sharing with all you good readers.

From a retired and respected member of the Courts.

Dear Prime Minister,

Let’s put the seniors in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.  This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.  They’d receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they’d receive money instead of paying it out.  They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly if they fell, or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.  A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.  They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool and education.

Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ’s and legal aid would be free, on request.  Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.  Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The “criminals” would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised.  Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week.  Live in a tiny room and pay $900.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.

Justice for all we say.

Think about this (more points of contention):

THE AUSTRALIAN CONSTITUTION

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Afghanistan. Why don’t we just give them ours? It was drawn up by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for a century or so and we’re not using it anymore.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse or Parliament, is this –

You cannot post – ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’, and ‘Thou Shall Not Lie’ in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians.  It creates a hostile work environment.

Also:

Think about this.  If you don’t want to forward this for fear of offending someone –

YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

It is time for us “grumpy old bastards” (that can mean all you young “grumpy old bastards” as well) to speak up!

Remember when…..

Remember when we, as 8 year olds or so, could take our bikes and spend a lazy afternoon down by the creek, fishing for brook trout or climbing trees in a vacant lot etc. etc. without a thought of anyone wanting to harm or hurt us in any way? Or maybe you can’t – your not that old.

Well now a young mother has been threatened with arrest and jail for allowing her 8 year old to go to the local park by himself.  I’ll let you read her blog in total if you like , along with the replies with other interesting stuff as I feel it is important for all of us.

Her blog called free range kids, brings back so many great memories of my childhood and I can’t help feeling sad and angry.  Sad for our young 8 year olds who live in a world where they will possibly not experience that kind of freedom, and angry that we as a society have allowed this situation to exist at all.  I’d like to think we can do something about it.

Obituary – Common Sense

I received this as a hard copy of an email back in March 2004 and it has been lost by me in amongst the piles of who knows what, until now when I believe others should feel guilty and stupid like me.  I know of numerous instances when I have been reminded of his death while reading the newspaper or watching television on far too many occasions.  I know I’m not alone!

“Today (I’ll let you put your own date on this) we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, by the name of Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.

No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.  He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn’t always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids are in charge).

His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.  Reports of a six year old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouth wash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.  Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after athletes and CEO’s salaries increased to between 9 thousand and 90 thousand dollars per hour, and a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled it in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement for simply being stupid.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility and his son Reason.  He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.”

Would you have attended his funeral?  I somehow doubt it.  But if you have experienced a slight twinge and you nodded (or shook) your head at least once, then do something about it – resist the senseless stuff of life.

It really is funny…

Continuing with the common sense stupidity thing, I am constantly being exposed to current examples of senseless behavior and attitudes in our little chicken coop.

So I guess I’ll just keep adding to my stuff for a while.

I suppose some could identify with the group above ….. and that really is funny!

Speaking of funny……..

I have been aware lately, as many of you are, of the rather heated debate regarding the wearing of head coverings within society.  Without trying to offend anyone – heaven forbid, I thought this to be a tad hilarious.  Apparently not all cultures think the same about covering the body!  a la east and west.
